Dawn Doucette

Douce Diner

Dawn Doucette is not just a chef, she’s a culinary storyteller, weaving together flavors and experiences into every dish at her beloved Douce Diner. Her journey began in the quaint town of Lowville, Ontario, where her first restaurant quickly became a local favorite. This early success ignited her passion for creating spaces where people gather, share, and connect over food. At Douce Diner, Dawn masterfully blends modern techniques with traditional comfort food, transforming classic recipes into vibrant, unforgettable meals. Her dishes are known for their bold flavors, yet they evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminding diners of the warmth of home-cooked meals

Dawn’s culinary career spans diverse kitchens, innovative concepts, and collaborative projects. She launched her first successful restaurant in Lowville, just outside Burlington, Ontario, and has played a pivotal role in culinary development for popular establishments such as Earls Kitchen & Bar, Saltlik, and Town Hall. Additionally, she consulted for iconic local food and beverage companies, shaping their food concepts with her unique vision. With a passion for local and homegrown ingredients, Dawn’s culinary perspective is globally inspired.

This duality—innovation paired with comfort—is a hallmark of her culinary style. Dawn’s culinary education laid a strong foundation for her creative pursuits. Graduating from the California Culinary Academy, she immersed herself in diverse culinary cultures, particularly during her time at the Sushi Academy in Venice Beach, where she learned the art of precision and presentation. Her apprenticeship at Zuni Café under the late Judy Rogers was particularly transformative; Judy’s emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients inspired Dawn to champion the same philosophy in her own work. This commitment to quality is reflected in her dishes, which often feature ingredients sourced from local farmers and markets. Her Acadian roots add another layer to her culinary identity. The rich traditions of her heritage are woven into her menu, where classic comfort foods are reimagined with sophisticated twists. This cultural influence not only enriches her dishes but also serves as a bridge connecting her to her community and its culinary history.

Dawn’s fun, easy going manner has made her a popular guest on Vancouver’s Global TV, City TV and CTV, she was a popular contestant on Food Networks Canada Top Chef, and a much loved “grownup” chef on Global TV’s Kids Culinary Challenge highlights her ability to connect with younger audiences, fostering a love for cooking in the next generation.
