Destiny Hoostie & Kelsey Coutts
Bangin' BannockKelsey Coutts and Destiny Houshte (Hoostie) are the co-founders of Bangin’ Bannock, an Indigenous-owned, woman-powered business rooted in culture, community, and the belief that food can be a powerful act of connection.
Kelsey, who is Nak’azdli Dakelh on her father’s side and of Irish and Scottish descent on her mother’s, was born in Toronto and now lives on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Peoples. Alongside Bangin’ Bannock, she works in operations management for a contemporary Indigenous travelling festival, helping bring high-level production and youth training to communities with limited resources.
Destiny, Nakoda/Assiniboine from her maternal side and Norwegian/German from her paternal side, is a registered Treaty member of White Bear First Nation. Based in Regina, she is raising three children while leading both Bangin’ Bannock and Takaya Indigenous Designs. A graduate of NVIT’s Indigenous-based Bachelor of Social Work program, she brings a deep commitment to empowerment and community care into every aspect of her work.
Together, Kelsey and Destiny built Bangin’ Bannock during the pandemic with the same spirit of resilience that inspired frybread itself: making something beautiful out of limited options. Today, their business stands as a symbol of cultural pride, generosity, and forward momentum, created to uplift future generations and honour the communities they come from.
