Trudy Metcalfe
Originally from Nain, Nunatsiavut, the Inuit Land Claims region in Northern Labrador, Inuk Chef, Trudy Metcalfe-Coe has called Ottawa home for over thirty years. Trudy started cooking around the age of twelve and takes pleasure in bringing comfort to family, friends and community, through her love of creating tasty dishes from Country Food (food from the Arctic such as caribou, seal, arctic char, and musk ox).
Trudy is an accomplished Inuk chef and community leader dedicated to celebrating Inuit culture through food, wellness, and family-centered initiatives. With a deep respect for traditional knowledge and Northern culinary practices, Trudy uses her expertise to promote cultural pride, and connection across generations.
Through her work, she has become a respected voice in Inuit food sovereignty, community programming, and cultural advocacy. Her leadership extends beyond the kitchen, supporting Inuit children, youth, and families through meaningful outreach and culturally grounded initiatives.
In recognition of her outstanding service and contributions to community and culture, Trudy was honored with the King Charles III Coronation Award, in June 2025, acknowledging her lasting impact and dedication to strengthening Inuit communities.
Trudy continues to inspire others through her culinary talent, cultural leadership, and commitment to creating spaces where Inuit traditions and values thrive.
Trudy has lived experience of hunting and fishing in the Arctic and is a strong advocate for supporting community and Inuit hunters. Trudy doesn’t cater for the sake of catering. Rather, Trudy likes to bring a taste of the Arctic to the south, which would be impossible without the hard-working hunters and fishers in the Arctic.
